The Caretaker really makes you think about what it's like to be Sikh (and more generally South Asian) in post-9/11 America. All the problems and irritations, large and small. Plus Ahmad includes great details about the kinds of cultural surprises that some immigrants might experience (like the arbitrary association of blue with boys' clothing).
